Mabar Sultan Abdul Aziz: (Death 728 A.H / 1328 A.D)
Sultan of Mabar ruled Kayal and Korkai with his administrative office at Kayalpatnam. Sultan of Mabar name was Shaikh Abdul Aziz. Marcopola, the famous Venetian traveler visited Kayalpatnam twice in 1288 and 1292. He writes that Kayalpatnam was busy port with wealthy Muslims. Ships from Arab countries, Greece and China visited this port frequently. Further he describes Kayal is at the mouth of Tamraparani river.
Dr.Shukri of Ceylon writes that the principal settlement in Mabar was Kayalpatnam near the mouth of Tamaraparani where Arabic coins dated 7th century were found out. Muslims came from Kayalpatnam to Berwala in 1024 A.D. and spread Islam. Sultan of Mabar was a great administrator and a holy person. His tomb is at Panchayat Road just behind professor Sahib Thamby Alim’s house, who was a former principal of Mahlara Arabic College. Near his tomb, there are two tombs of great Saints but the names are not clear, and in one of which Sura Iklas was written. According to an oral report, the tomb next to him belongs to Sayyid Riazuddin. He was a Hafil, alim and saint. He was a descendant of our Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam). He was a guide and an adviser to the Sultan of Mabar. Another tomb- stone with Sura Iklas, which is about 20 feet away from his tomb also belongs to a saint who had died about 480 years ago. He was also a descendant of our Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam). His name was Sayyid Masood according to a reporter.
